Matt Cordell, who performs Mondays at the TCB Theatre in Pigeon Forge, says that he is Elvis Presley’s biggest fan. Now there might just be a few folks out there who would care to dispute that, but the fact that Matt makes his living as an Elvis tribute artist goes a long way toward backing up his claim.

In fact, Matt has been performing in concert and portraying the King of Rock and Roll on stage for nearly 20 years. It all started with an audition for a ‘50s music show at Dollywood, at which he was told that he sounded just like Elvis Presley. That’s all it took to get him moving, and he’s never looked back.

But although working an Elvis entertainer is a full-time career, Matt considers what he does more than just a job. It’s a way of life, seven days a week, and he strives to be as authentic as possible in portraying the life of Elvis Presley through his music.

It all starts with “the look.” Matt comes by Elvis naturally, bearing a strong

resemblance to The King, without the benefit of a wig or makeup. But from there, Matt takes his tribute to the next level with an attention to detail and a respect for Elvis’s work. And audiences take notice—from the sideburns and the costumes to the trademark Presley moves and, naturally, a voice that is uncannily reminiscent of Elvis himself.

Also, don’t forget that we’re talking about the self-proclaimed biggest fan of Elvis Presley. Matt Cordell knows about 500 Elvis songs by heart—from the gospel songs to the ballads to the hits made popular in Presley’s dozens of feature films—and he considers himself in the know when it comes to Elvis trivia.

During his nearly two decades as an Elvis entertainer, Matt has performed all across the country in a wide range of venues. But whether he’s working in front of thousands of fans on a concert stage or doing a fundraiser for a small crowd, audiences can be assured that Matt will always deliver, a tasteful first-class performance.

As a testament to the impact of his portrayal of Elvis Presley, Matt has received numerous awards and honors over the years in Elvis tribute competitions nationwide. Most recently, he won first place in the Elvis Presley Enterprise’s Ultimate Elvis Contest at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino in July 2010 and went on to place fourth in the world in the Ultimate Elvis Finals in Memphis in August.
