When you hear 15-year-old Kelsey Wypych perform onstage at the TCB Theatre, you can tell right away that music is one of the great passions of her life. And it always has been. She’s been singing since the age of three and today claims a variety of musical styles as influences, including country, R&B, pop and gospel. Of course, as one of the stars of the theater’s new show, “Good Rockin’ Tonight,” Kelsey can safely add the unforgettable music of Elvis Presley to that list.
In recent years, she has found more and more opportunities to share her talents with the public, from school talent competitions to singing in the choir at Sevier County High School to performing the national anthem for the crowds at Tennessee Smokies baseball games. Her God-given talent combined with her growing experience as a singer and dancer helped propel her onto the TCB Theatre stage and made this Sevierville, Tennessee, daughter a natural addition to the cast.
However, we mentioned that music is only one of Kelsey’s passions. This well-rounded young lady is also an accomplished athlete, playing on her high school’s basketball and tennis teams as well as participating in AAU basketball. One of her goals is to attend the University of North Carolina on basketball and academic scholarships, although she also wants to continue developing her musical skills throughout college and beyond.
One of the defining events in Kelsey’s young life was her early battle with a form of cancer called neurofibertosis. Now a 10-year cancer survivor, she stays strong in her Christian faith by staying involved in her local church. She says that having the disease also made her a stronger person and more driven to succeed in life.
